UNCLE! ONCLE! PFANDLEIHER! ZIO! ONKEL! TIO! дядя! Anyone who knows me will suspect that an alien has taken over my body, but enough already with the chocolate cookies! I can’t believe it myself, that I am saying such a thing, and yet I am. I look at the tray of cookies in front of me with a kind of weariness. Chocolate. Cookies. Again. That’s it, I’m calling it: Uncle.
I suspect if I’d just made these out of the blue because I wanted to (and I would’ve wanted to, glancing through the cookbook), I’d be crazy for them. I mean, what’s not to love?! They have every kind of chocolate known to the civilized world, plus salty crunchy peanuts for a startlingly fun change of nut pace. And there are veins of molten chocolate oozing around in them here and there. And nice brownie tops, in places. I mean, what’s not to love? Am I crazy?! These will join the leftover Chocolate Whopper Malted Drops I still have from last week’s baking fun.
I added espresso powder, and used dark chocolate chunks instead of white chocolate because I had them. Basically, this dough is a little bit of flour and eggs holding together milk chocolate, semisweet chocolate, bittersweet chocolate, cocoa, and dark chocolate. I didn’t add raisins or other dried fruit because YUCK, as I always say.
Claudia, the eponymous Fool for Food, chose these chunkers, and she’ll have the recipe posted on her site. If you own the cookbook, check page 70. As always, the whole gang made these cookies, so check the blogroll to see their chocolatey efforts. Don’t be put off by my crankiness; I’m just hungover from all the chocolate.

Ha Ha I was laughing tonite that I was SO OVER the fruit desserts and then it was like…YAY cookies. But then its like ALL COOKIES ALL THE TIME! However, I adore cookies so it’s okay… I modified these and they were yum.
I loved these cookies, but I, too, am ready for something other than a chocolate cookie!
Great job!
Your cookies look delicious!! I absolutely loved them! I’m going to post mine later today. Took them to work and they were gone in no time… According to my coworkers: the best cookie ever!
Can’t go wrong with chocolate and peanut butter! YUM!
You got some really nice shots of those cookies! They look really nice… kinda makes me wish I added the peanuts.
Well, your cookies look better than Dorie’s! We have had quite the run on cookies, haven’t we? And “all that chocolate” is an apt description. But I did love them. Serving cookies to company and sending them to work with hubby really has helped avoid the burn out. (psst, the dimply plum cake is great!)
Love your pictures! I left out the raisins too – didn’t sound good to me. But I did use the white chocolate and couldn’t really taste it, so you didn’t miss much there!
I’m looking forward to something other than a cookie next week, too. If I’d been at home, I probably would have added some espresso powder–great idea!
Your cookies look wonderful! So rich and delicious. Well done! I love the last picture, haha, it made me laugh!
Awesome photography – really impressive! The espresso powder was a great addition – at least next week it’s a fruity-type cake!!
I’m loving the last picture. totally hilarious! Love all your additions!.. and don’t you just love the dry crackly surface. So much like a brownies Yumz.
That last photo is awesome!
I need to have a big cheat week to enjoy the last few cookie recipes. The one thing I hate about being on a diet is behaving myself.
Uncle over here too. I think. After seeing all these delicious cookies, I atually want some more. Yours sound wonderful with the addition of expresso powder.
Your cookies look perfect! I almost didn’t make these, but I am so glad I did!
Ha Ha! I know where you are coming from, I am a die hard cookie fan but even I have been like…”more cookies?” hmmm……I’m looking forward to trying the plum cake!
Your pictures are beautiful. Gorgeous cookies!
Your photos are fabulous! I’ve got to tell you, freeze the cookies. They are delicious frozen, and you’ll have something to nibble on for weeks!
I’ve made myself sick eating these cookies. I, too, am ready for a new challenge other than cookies. Yours look great!
I am ready to move on from the cookies (or more specifically, the chocolate cookies) as well — but oh gracious. These were amazing cookies. Yours look fantastic! Plum cake next week — sort of the “anti-chocolate cookie,” don’t you think?
Amazing pictures, the espresso powder sounds like a great addition.
Seriously, you are creeping me out with that photoshopping. I hope against hope that she won’t be hiding somewhere in your dimply plum cake.
Hahaha – I’m with you with too much chocolate. I’m glad the next couple of recipes are not cookies! Adding espresso powder was a great touch. And I think a lot of people left out the raisins (so did I!).
Yours sound good! Send one my way!
wow, I love all your photography!!! Amazing! Your cookies look perfect! I laughed out loud at my desk here with that “ROAR!!!” photo –hysterical!!
I was all cookied out myself…until i tried them. I kid you not. I would injure someone who came between me and these cookies.
These look sooooo good. My son would woof them down — or sneak them to school to pass out, which is even better. Then I wouldn’t be tempted to eat the rest myself. I’ve gotta try these — sans the roaring fuschia raisin in that one…hah.
wowww…yum! your cookies look great!!
good jobbb
<3
ha–i hope your plea is duly noted! i’m glad you went ahead and made yet another chocolate cookie–they please my eyes.
The good thing about cookies is they’re easy to give away! Yours look really delicious, the photos are great too.
I’m crying uncle as well, except that you intrigued me with the espresso addition. And the pic of the vein of chocolate. Dangit, it’s addicting!
Thanks for visiting me, Lori. Sorry I’m late … I got distracted by your focaccia. I’m going right back to it. BTW, I hope you’re enjoying your new KitchenAid. I’ve had mine for more than 20 years and it is still going strong. See you next week!
if you thought making these cookies right after making the others last week, imagine making them both on the same day! OMG serious chocolate overload here.
luckily i’m mailing them off to my nephew so i won’t have to look at them much longer.
today it’s oatmeal cookies and snickerdoodles!
pictures lovely as always. and your daughter is stinkin’ adorable.
Hungover on chocolate? I think I’d like to try that! Another great cookie…I wonder what next week will bring?
I just don’t think I can tire of delicious gooey chocolate cookies, but next week we all get a cookie break with plumb cake!
Yay! No more cookies. Yay! No more chocolate. Altho’ I do dearly love both of them. I too am ready for something different. Bring on the Plums. Your cookies look fantastic. And they were either very very large or Marnie is very very small. Clever Pic. good Cookie. BTW thanks for visiting Tea and Scones.
Lovin’ the photos…you made these rustic cookies look amazing! Yup, I’m in chocolate OD mode too.
I loved them, but I get it — we seem to keep going on “streaks.” There was the fruit streak, and now we’re on the cookie streak.
Wow, incredible photos! What do you use to take them?
Your photos are yum-tastic! I agree, it’s time for a break from the chocolate, but this was a pretty good way to fortify the chocolate tooth for the hiatus.
Oh wow! I love that vein of chocolate in the pic. I wish I could go mining and find a vein of that. If I didn’t eat it all, I’d be quite rich. I assure you.
Your photos always crack me up! These cookies look rich, rich and delicious!!
gasp!! chocolate sacrilege
hehe. glad you liked these cookies, anyway. great pics too! it has been a pretty long cookie stretch… next week should be a nice break
THANKS everyone!! James, I use a Nikon D70S, but the most important thing is light; since I live in an apartment in Manhattan in the midst of tall buildings, I need a good flash because natural light is not always available in abundance. I have the Nikon SB-800 speedlight flash, which made all the difference in the quality of my photos. It’s really astonishing just how much better photos are when you use natural light OR get away from the little flash that’s built in with your camera.
A fun post. Great pics and the cookies look delicious. Yes, we certainly have had a run of cookie baking projects with four in a row but I’ve added the last three weeks to my 5 star list.
I usually like raisins or cranberries in cookies but in these it was just too much. Yours look great!
Wow, amazing pictures! Your cookies look so delicious!
Well at least we know when we are ready for cookies again, this recipe will satisfy any chocolate craving! Great pictures
I was less than enthused to start with but I ended up loving these cookies. Glad we are moving on, though.
Lori! Your cookies look divine!! That picture of you in the bowl has me crackin’ up!! Way too cute! I call UNCLE too!! Enough.. Looking forward to the next one!
We are really looking forward to next weeks recipe! Your cookies look great!
WORD. I love me a good cookie, but I’m pretty much all cookied out by now. Although these were much better than the Whopper cookies, in my opinion. I found myself baking off a batch to photograph, then portioning the rest of the dough and freezing it to bake later. (Just like all the other cookies we’ve made recently!)
LOVED your post! I’m all about cookies, but even I am looking forward to trying something new next week. Great pictures!
I still have leftover cookies from last week too! I love to drool over your photos each week, so thanks for suffering through another chocolate cookie recipe!
i love the “molten veins” of chocolate
i can’t believe you have leftover whopper cookies! those were gone in an instant and i even made a second batch already!
Oh, yes, that’s it… brownie tops! I’ve been looking at everyone’s cookies noticing how shiny they all are (mine were too), thinking there was something strangely unusual, but yet familiar about them. And you figured it out. brownies!
Anyway, wow, what fantastic photos you have… the last one is hilarious.
